Waters Center
Challenge
The primary challenges of this fast paced project were:
- Space was limited
- Tight schedules needed to be maintained
- The downtown location
- Many architectural surprises consistent with a building originally built in 1896
- The old system had to stay running until the new system was in place for the comfort of current tenants
- Once tenant moves were completed, the old system was decommissioned and removed
Solution
- Being prepared to offer solutions at a moments notice
- Attention to detail
- Critical thinking
A Closer Look
The Waters Center, a six-story building in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, boasts a rich history. It began as a furniture show place and is recognizable to residents as a historic landmark. In this third incarnation, the building saw a new life as a 107-room Hilton Homewood Suites hotel, a 44-unit apartment building, and an office building. The Waters building is using Automated Logic controls to control the water source heat pump system.
